There was a time that I noticed that many spam comments were coming from the same few IP addresses. So what I would do was blacklist these IP addresses. A plugin like the one that I am working on can give information on which IP addresses to blacklist. Akismet may already filter spam so that blacklists would not be necessary. Still, I find that Akismet makes CAPTCHAs for posting comments unnecessary, and CAPTCHAs do get used. A plugin that gives information about who is trying to post spam can be useful, and I will write more about that later.

Ah yes, Akismet saved my blogging-life too. Could be interesting to learn more about who is trying to post spam comments -- though what can be done with that information, I wonder? It seems really hard, like emptying the ocean with a teaspoon, or whatever that expression is that I am completely mutilating.
